This retrospective of the late Alexander Mcqueen’s work is a timely tribute seeing as his successor, Sara Burton, just designed the royal wedding dress and a year has passed since the designer took his own life. The show is hauntingly curated, and fittingly macabre in keeping with Mcqueen’s aesthetic. I don’t know if it’s just me, but somehow, knowing how his story was going to end, casts a gloomy shadow over even the more cheery quotations that are cited accompanying his designs. Particularly enchanting to me was the small reproduction of the hologram of Kate moss dancing in an ethereal tiered dress. Like a little ballerina in a jewelery box, the Museum has arranged this installation encased in a glass vitrine which you need to peer through to experience. The visual is set to the theme tune from ‘Schindler’s List’ which of course adds to the melancholy vibe.
